Kalmbach Media is an 84-year-old media company that is transforming its business, products and culture. We seek an entrepreneurial, charismatic, and tech-savvy business development leader to join our dynamic and evolving senior team as Director of Business Development. This person will enable and accelerate our strategies and initiatives and drive measureable revenue development within the first year. Working with business units, they will lead the company's business development efforts including organic opportunities, revenue opportunities, digital media partnerships, new product identification, external acquisitions, new client development, and enabling technologies and partnerships.



  • Intimately understand Kalmbach's business objectives and strategies. Participate in strategic planning and business planning.
  • Collaborate with internal business owners and stakeholders to identify, research, and pursue opportunities which enable and accelerate revenue growth.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of the media landscape and counsel CEO and business owners on emerging trends and technologies.
  • Maintain media industry relationships to provide insight and direction to Kalmbach's evolving strategy.
  • Initiate discussions with innovative vendors who provide valuable and enabling technology. Advise business owners on opportunities and manage discussions.
  • Assist with acquisition efforts by identifying and researching potential targets.
  • Partner with marketing team to increase monetization of current web/digital assets.
  • Partner with sales to provide new ideas for sponsorships, advertising, and custom content solutions.
  • Provide research to business units as needed. Develop sources of trustworthy and insightful research.



  • Degree in Business or related field.
  • 6-8 years of business development experience.
  • Knowledge of media industry including advertising sales, sponsorships, native advertising, search, subscription products with emphasis on digital knowledge. Prior experience with advertising, media tie-ins and sponsorship deals are highly beneficial.
  • Superb writing skills and strong personal charisma.
  • Must be driven to succeed, well organized, able to juggle many diverse and competing responsibilities simultaneously. Must be comfortable reaching out to companies, establishing relationships and gathering information.
  • Knowledge of all social media tools, and current array of digital marketing techniques essential.
  • Must be comfortable with spreadsheets, business modeling, PowerPoints, and email marketing tools.
  • Occasional travel required.
